巴拿馬總統瓦雷拉(Juan Carlos Varela)在當地時間27日下午與蔡英文總統進行雙邊會晤，瓦雷拉事後在他的臉書上向蔡總統致謝，並說明雙方有具歷史意義的合作關係。
不過，瓦雷拉通篇使用的是「China(Taiwán)」，隨行的民進黨籍立委許智傑擔心國外網友會認為台灣是屬於中國的一部分，因此呼籲外交部盡速了解，並要求更正。
對此，總統府發言人黃重諺表示，有關瓦雷拉總統在臉書上對於台灣國名的稱呼，稍早經過了解，是巴方在書寫我國國名全稱時，漏列了「República de」，已經請駐館向巴方告知更正。
黃重諺並指出，事實上，所有巴拿馬官方對我國文件都會正確標示「República de China (Taiwan)」。
